Sustainable Development

Sustainable development is an essential agenda of FEALAC cooperation for sustained and inclusive economic growth, social development, environmental protection and the eradication of poverty and hunger in Latin America and East Asia. As a unique inter-regional forum between Latin America and East Asia, FEALAC support the attainment of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in both regions.

Recognizing the need for strengthening sustainable development, FEALAC introduced it within FEALAC working groups at the 15th FEALAC Senior Officials’ Meeting (2014, Bangkok, Thailand).

In 2016, Guatemala presented the Conceptual Note of ‘Contribution of FEALAC in the Fulfillment of the 2013 Agenda for Sustainable Development’ and member countries reaffirmed their strong commitments to achieving sustainable and effective development in the two regions.

FEALAC has implemented various projects related issues of the sustainable development such as:

   - Climate change, environment, biodiversity, natural disaster management

   - Health and healthcare

   - Community empowerment
